My baby boy is 5 months old today! Every month, I just can’t believe how big he is and how fast he’s growing. He is 17 lbs 5 oz, and we seemed to have skipped 6 month clothing and gone straight into 9 month. Or at least, he is very close to growing out of all of his 6 month sizes after just a couple weeks. I’m just hoping his 9 month fall wardrobe still fits him by the time cooler weather comes around again!
As the weeks go by, our little guy continues to be such a bundle of fun. I love watching his little personality unfold.
His main mission in life these days, besides getting anything and everything into his mouth, is TOUCHING THE DOGGY! A surefire way to get a huge smile or laugh out of him is to let him grab onto Eddie. If the dog is around, you can guarantee he’ll be 100% focused on how to get closer to get his hands on him.
Verbally, our little man is amazing us these days. He chatters non-stop, from the moment he wakes up in the morning, until he’s fallen asleep at night. He loves to “try out” his voice with screeches and yells, and loves to talk back to the voices coming from Mama’s phone.
We’re also amazed at how skillful he’s becoming at getting things into his mouth. If he wants it, and it comes within range, he’ll reach for it and instantly shove it into his mouth. His favorite toys are his Sophie the Giraffe, the Baby Einstein Panda, and the Baby Einstein Bendy Ball. We’ve got a variety of others that we rotate out, but he keeps going back to those time and again.
His determination to put anything and everything in his mouth means that I have to provide some serious distractions at bath time, otherwise he’ll complain that he can’t have the washcloth in his mouth the whole time. Luckily our tub comes with a handy dandy teether:
He also loves practicing sitting in the bathtub. He’s almost mastered the tripod sit – his back is strong and firm, but he falls to either side if left unattended. Leaning forward allows him to sit up by himself…his big belly holds him up.
He also loves spending time on his stomach.
Lying in bed together while we’re waking up in the morning, he’ll roll from his back to his stomach and then back to his back, but that’s the only time he’ll do it. He spends a lot of time on his tummy during the day, and again at night after his bath (naked tummy time ), but he’s so far just uninterested in rolling around much.
Reading time is fun. Isaac isn’t so much interested in the story lines as eating the books, but we enjoy a selection of Sandra Boynton books every night before bed (my favorite is Moo, Baa, La la la). I’m looking forward to when he starts to notice the pictures, colors and enjoy the animal sounds I make (however ridiculous I might sound).
He continues to love walks in the stroller, bouncing in his jumper, and our newest addition – hanging out in his highchair during dinner.
I’m so excited to see what new things Isaac’s sixth month of life brings!
He’s such a sweet little guy! Adorable! It’s hard to believe that Uncle Ben once wore that itty bitty light yellow sunsuit!
